Why Grey Ghost?

The Grey Ghost is named for General John Bell Hood. He was the commander of the Confederate troops stationed in Spring Hill (at Oaklawn Plantation) and charged with not allowing the Union forces to get north to Franklin and eventually Nashville. Many say he had been wounded in battle and was either intoxicated or delirious from pain medication, but the Union soldiers crept within 200 yards of Oaklawn and got past his soldiers. The next day the Battle of Franklin took place, which many say was a huge pivotal point in the war.

Our Purpose

This race was the vision of a small group of local residents that were determined to put on a fitness focused event for local families while raising money for children’s charities.

Race Course

The Grey Ghost 5K is a certified 3.1 mile run held at the Oaklawn Plantation on Denning Lane in Spring Hill, Tennessee. The race is an out and back country course on hilly and scenic Denning Lane.

The Goblin Gallop includes two kids runs which will be held on the dirt road around the home and on the front drive. Ages 3 to 5 can sign up for the Goblin Gallop 1/2K (which equals 1/3 mile), and ages 5 through 12 can sign up for the 1K (which equals 2/3 mile)

Water BagParticipants are welcome to wear a family friendly costume for the 5K Race and Goblin Gallop. Persons with costumes deemed inappropriate for a family event will be asked to change.

Please Note: All children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult 18 and older at all times. Parents participating in the 5k must arrange for supervision during the race.
